It probably will work but I don't like it. I think it is better to let the 
user setup the path to MSEgui source root instead to guess it. What if one 
wants to use another MSEgui tree than the tree in the ../msegui? Often it 
will be the case that the binary is in another place than msegui/, think on 
usual Linux distributions.
In case of an installer the installer can supply a correct default mseide*.sta 
(as you do), if there already a mseide*.sta exists the path in the file must 
be replaced if necessary, probably after asking the user if it is OK to do 
so. Another possibility is to use a startupscript for MSEide and to supply 
the ${MSEDIR} variable by the commandline.
