Indeed, sounds like lots of fun! ;-) > I was able to install ZFS on > OpenSUSE but I fear it is not a good idea to exchange data by this way I have been doing just that for 2 years now. Still no problems. ZFS is a fantastic file system. It's the primary file system for all my data. > My Linux partitions are ext4 which FreeBSD doesn't support. Yeah, that is a pain. I had various USB sticks formatted as ext4, and then after switching to FreeBSD realized I couldn't mount them. Now they are all formatted ext2 or ZFS. > PC-BSD from Linux Grub2 up to now. As I mentioned, I don't have issues running FreeBSD in a Virtual Box VM (PC-BSD is clearly different). Simply install the core OS, then Xorg and some window manager (I recommend JWM). There is no need for the whole Gnome2, Gnome3 or KDE desktop environments if you only want to test compiling and running GUI programs. You can save yourself some time by installing the binary Xorg & xorg-drivers packages - instead of compiling them from source. JWM is very small, but very functional. It installs fast from source code. The FreeBSD Handbook is very good in explaining all this step by step. Thanks again for attempting to get FreeBSD support going. That is much appreciated. If there is anything further I can help with, please let me know.
