Yup, that is exactly what I do. I have a 5TB RAID-Z1 disk array primarily used by FreeBSD. But I can dock my external Linux hard drive, reboot into Linux and still access (read/write) the ZFS pool. All I need to do in Linux after boot is import (mount) the ZFS pool.
