Hi folks.

OK - So it's been decided by the 'yesses!'

We'll do the SSD's ZIL's and zfs (oh my) talk, then have extended drinkies before departing. :)

(Optional meet at a local pub or something afterwards if there is a will to do so.)

See you all tomorrow at the oracle building. Same protocol as usual.

Cheers!

Nathan.

Hi folks,

We have thus far had lots of "I can't make it this month" and very few yeses...

So - if you might be able to let me know, positive or negative ASAP, that would help, as if we can't get a quorum, we might just go to a pub or something instead... Maybe even dinner?

Actually - that's a good idea: When replying, can you please respond with one of the below:
 - I'm coming, and want to talk ZFS, SSD's and ZIL's
 - I'm keen on drinkies
 - I'm keen on dinner (and most likely drinkies as well. ;))
 - I'm not coming. You stink.

We'll run with whatever looks most popular.

Cheers,

Nathan.

!!!WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!

This months meeting is on a TUESDAY!

So - it's the last meeting of the year. I have been playing with SSD's, ZFS and other stuff and have a number of interesting things to talk about with respect to ZFS, SSD's, ZILS, performance (even a little solaris on VMWare tease as well) and some other stuff.

Following that, we'll have a pizza and beer break and head home. :)

(Gavin - I'm *still* looking at you and the vm2 subsystem one of these days!! heh heh.) :).

Again - For reference - On the list of what folks wanted to see - we collectively decided we'd like to talk about the following in the coming months: DTrace stuff (including a re-intro/primer as we have a bunch of new folks in the group), Solaris 11 (going deep into the new stuff), (eg: ipadm, dladm, tuned versus vanilla, etc), Pillar storage, OEL/OL (Oracle Linux)... Anyone who wants to volunteer would be most welcome. :)

See below for topics/speakers.

If you want to get someone else subscribed to this list - send them here:

Please respond in the positive OR negative ASAP so Pizza and Drinks can be planned.

Where?
Level 5, 417 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, VIC 3004.

*** NOTE THAT THIS ADDRESS IS THE ORACLE BUILDING ***

When?
***Tuesday*** December the 17th at 18:00 for general discussion and merriment.

Speakers start at 18:30 sharp, with Pizza arriving somewhere around 20:00ish.

Speakers / Topics will mostly be (Expect this to be revised with more stuff as more people volunteer):

 - Nathan - talking about:
    - Consumer hardware, and the perils / pleasures of working with it ;)
- ZFS, SSD's and ZIL's with some live demo's of just how different things can be with but a few tweaks

I'm looking for Topics/Speakers for *next* month as well (Or maybe Feb)...

Soft drink, coffee/tea and Pizza will be available. (YES - FOOD.)

**If you plan to attend, please reply NOW to
[email protected] so that we
can plan for seating / pizza / drinks!**

To anyone who meets with or talks to folks interested in Solaris: Please
let everyone know about the meeting, the time and the date. We would
love to continue to continue to grow the group.

A note on access: The Lifts in the building and entrance to Level 5
automatically lock early in the evening, so access will be provided by
Oracle folks on-site. A sign will also be placed close to the ground
floor lifts with a contact number, should you arrive after the start of
the meeting.

If you are interested in Solaris, doing interesting things with, or on
Solaris, we want YOU!

Cheers!
