Actually, Win2k benchmarks slightly faster than Win98. (And WinMe is a
bastard version of 98.) I cannot believe that any company would still have
a running version of win95, especially if this company does hardware and/or
software development. It is disgustingly easy to damage a win95/98 install,
but WinNT/Win2k and Win XP are virtually bullet proof. Severe provocation
might blue screen you, but a reboot generally brings the system back.

Once again though, I would like to point out that the MSP GCC is free. Maybe
some people do not understand what this implies? To suggest it should be
fixed to run on windows 98 ignores the question as to who is going to do the
fix? Since nobody currently doing development has any interest in this area,
it appears that it will never be addressed (And, why should anyone on the
development team care anyway? It works on Linux (And BSD) , and it also
works on several flavours of the Windoz operating system. It obviously does
the job for the people who are using it, including, it appears, several on
the MSP team.) It may have escaped some of the people complaining about the
fact of its unreliability on Windows 98 that the compiler used to generate
the MSP executables for Windows is also a freebie, and the fault probably
lies with that tool, and not the underlying MSP code. The fact that windows
98 blows up on the generated code however does NOT necessarily mean the
fault is not with windows 98 ...

If you want to run the FREE MSP GCC tools, the easiest fix is, don't use
windows 95, or windows 98. (In fact, the installer explodes when trying to
install to a 95 machine, so that should not be an issue.) If that is not a
viable alternative, you can go and purchase the IAR suit. But for the price
of that, you could by a new PC plus operating system and still have cash in
hand. (Plus, the IAR tools have bugs as well, as anyone using CSPY will
certainly attest!

There is no pleasing everybody, or, as we say in the antipodes "Jeez, some
people would complain if their arses were on fire! "

Win98 is NOT faster than NT, 2000, XP. I found that XP uses less memory and
runs faster!

Hello,

I am planning to use the mspgcc compiler in future projects.
At this moment I am using the IAR compiler and it is running on a windows95
computer.
And yes it is the only windows95 in the company.
There was a lot of discussions on running mspgcc. I am running win98 on my
laptop, and I am not planning to 'upgrade' mine OS to a newer but bigger and
slower OS.
A bug in the mspgcc compiler running on win98 doesn't mean that there is a
bug
in win98 but a bug in de mspgcc. The only 'problem' with win98, in stead of
winNT, is the behavior of the OS if a bug occurs.
