Like a lot of devices, support is not in 2.15, but it is in CVS.

Steve, I've written, "use it if you wish". It's the patch over the last
stable version of binutils 2.15 and other tools I could find the time I
needed 1611 support. That's all.

You can apply the binutils patch to 2.15, but the other patches won't
apply to anything people get now. Nor does it need to support is already
in gcc, libc, etc. Most people use the latest CVS from redhat. Its very
stable, since binutils is not undergoing major changes. Its most bug
fixes, adding new MCU types as we are, etc. I have yet to have any
problems using a CVS snapshot of binutils.
The way to get support for everything except the 2xx parts announced a
couple of weeks ago is to grab CVS from sourceforge for everything
except binutils. Grab a recent snapshot of binutils from
sources.redhat.com. To do anything else is just creating unnecessary
problems.
