It seems that a number of listers are attempting this build. I've been
attempting to build with Cygwin and Mingw concurrently, and have had at
least 3 cases where my computer has locked solid (Windows XP Pro, SP3). The
only things that would react at all are the touch buttons, e.g. wireless
on/off, volume up/down, and mute. Even number-lock would not work. Sometimes
the screen is blank; at other times the screen is normal, except that
nothing reacts at all, not even the mouse cursor.

This is extremely rare for me. As an experiment, I've started only the
Cygwin build this time, and so far the computer has not locked up.

Of course, this could be other software; I'm suspicious of Firefox for
example, but it's possibly because it's the software I use the most, and so
is most likely the one I'm interacting with when the computer freezes.

I'd be interested to hear if others have experienced this lockup. I suspect
that most users will have more recent operating systems than Windows XP, and
might therefore not experience the same lockup.

I started with a late 2010 version of MinGW, but updated many components
today to the 2011 release. The most recent lockup was after this update. I
noticed that after one of the restarts, Cygwin was no longer in the path, so
I had to download a few extra packages (e.g. patch) which must previously
have been sourced from Cygwin late in the $PATH.

Cygwin: CYGWIN_NT-5.1 hp_laptop 1.7.7(0.230/5/3) 2010-08-31 09:58 i686
Cygwin
MinGW: MINGW32_NT-5.1 HP_LAPTOP 1.0.16(0.48/3/2) 2010-09-29 00:07 i686 Msys
(but updated beyond this today as noted above).
