Please forget my posting below (or at least part of it)
Somehow, I got the mail content and the mail headers mixed-up.
The OP was not by Diane Gagne but msp430 and the topic was not
the Ez430-F2013 but the 'official' mspgcc forum.
I don't know how this happened.

Sorry.

However, the part about the CCS resinstalling is still true and fits the
EZ430-F2013 thread.

p.s.: for problems with the MSP in general, the TI forum at e2e.ti.com is a
good source of infortmations that are
MSP (but not mspgcc) related.

Well, this is the mspgcc-users mailing list. It is not (albeit the topic is
somewhat related) an mspdebug users list nor is
in a general MSP support list.

The suggestion of (re) installing CCS wasn't that far off. CCS also installs
the device drivers for the FET and the
required communicaton libraries.
Sometimes this fixes problems. Especially if you have several different FET
variations (LaunchPad, Chronos, a
generic FET) which all use the same
USB/serial bridge chip.
Under windows, re-installing CCS often helped.
I had some irritating results myself when isntalling CCS and IAR. The usability
of the new USB FET with
MSP430-JTAG (for older chips only) was dependent on the order of install.

However, the LaunchPad is a relatively new product, and support for different
Windows as well as Linix platforms is
generally a bit shakey.
The official supported OS is a plain Win XP. No Linux, no Win7, and no XP with
lots of fancy stuff isntalled (such as
smartphone-sync software, which tends to hijack virtual COM ports) are
officially supported.

I didn't expect such a response. Days ago i have read an article,
about the advantages of modern forums compared to mailing-lists.

develissimo.com is not yet perfect, but its improving from day to day.
I hope a lot of people like the idea of an electronic open source forum.
Everybody is welcome!

I wish you all good luck on development
Best greetings
Raphael from develissimo.com
