The 20110716 release of mspgcc is now available at the mspgcc project:

  http://sourceforge.net/projects/mspgcc/files/mspgcc/mspgcc-20110716.tar.bz2

This package is the preferred format for most users: it consists of
patches to be applied to upstream unmodified distributions of
binutils, gcc, and gdb, and references to the corresponding versions
of msp430mcu and msp430-libc. You can examine the individual patches
through the git browse facility at:

http://mspgcc.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=mspgcc/mspgcc;a=tree;h=6003679b98360e99e5f316eca471dc771e68ce57;hb=9e5bc877abbd29443bc0467dd3acf118d75feb6d

Change logs are present in the prolog of each patch. Each component
is independently versioned; the mspgcc release will generally be the
same as the most recent release of any component package. This
release comprises:

   msp430-binutils-2.21.1-20110716 (NEW: basis is 2.21.1)
msp430-gcc-4.5.3-20110706 (NEW: basis is 4.5.3, MPY enhancements)
   msp430-gdb-7.2-20110103
   msp430mcu-20110613
   msp430-libc-20110612

Downstream packagers, please get it and "dew yore thang". Absent
boneheaded mistakes in the packaging, this will be a stable release,
and mspgcc development will advance to the 4.6.x branch for future
enhancements. What this means is that "mspgcc-YYYYMMDD" will progress
to new versions of upstream tools, and if there are problems with (for
example) the gcc 4.5.3 port there will be individual patch file
updates for the affected tool.

Non-packagers: Although basic instructions are included, I am unable
to provide how-to support for building the toolchain. If you know how
to build and install your own version of gcc, you'll probably be fine.

Questions and discussion can be on this list, but please report all
toolchain bugs on the mspgcc bug tracker at:

  http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=42303&atid=432701
