Bricking FETs seems to be a new sport these days.
There are lots of threads in the TI e2e forum.

The MSP430.dll includes compatible firmware for all
FETs this dll version supports.
CCS adn IAR do so automatically if they get report from
their own msp430.dll that the attached FET is not
supported.
There is a software that tells the MSP430.dll to
upload a new firmware through BSL to the FETs MSP.
It seems to work even if the FET doesn't respond
anymore and the TUSB chip for the USB/Serial
bridge does not enumerate itself as FET but as a
generic TUSB.
The link is somewhere in the mentioned threads on the
Ti e2e forum.

And I think I read that the new MSP430.dll V3 has
external firmware files. Which are provided as
binaries (while the MSP320.dll is available as source)
But that's just a dim memory.
