OK, I got this working in the IAR workbench with v2 DLL. In project->options->FET debugger there is a checkbox "Attach to running target". Also the chip is not automatically sensed, so it must be set in project->options->general options->device. Of course, the debugger can't read elf executable format, but reading off the device is good enough for me. It would be nice to have it working with mspdebug, but I couldn't make it happen.
