Robert, The current OLPC OS runs on some variant of Fedora 17. Several ones previous, still in use by over a million kids, run on Fedora 14. I am unsure about the earliest ones, as far back as 2005, which sometimes show up as being "alive" in some places.
I do not know how to help, but I will in any way possible. I reasonably suspect that I cannot do this alone, especially building from source is something I haven't done. I don't even know the right questions to ask :-) I hope we can make this work... I can provide logs for what is happening now when yum is run - at least that would show what repositories are being called by the XOs. Would that help?
