The second link in your email would have been quite helpful to find early on.
The binutils, gcc and gdb instructions in the README from
mspgcc-20120406.tar.bz2 is very clear. The mcu and libc instructions tell me I
need these two packages:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mspgcc/files/msp430mcu/msp430mcu-YYYYMMDD.tar.bz2
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mspgcc/files/msp430-libc/msp430-libc-YYYYMMDD.tar.bz2
There is a 20120406 for mcu but not for libc. So I had to guess for libc
without the link you sent. I used 20120606 and things seem to work but I think
I'll start over with msp430libc-20120224.
Best part so far is msp430-gdb does not crash anymore! Yay!
