Hi, I have a question regarding soft policy reset on ConfigMgr 2007 clients and how it affects clients that use advertisements set to always rerun. I tested a certain scenario and just want to validate my findings.
My question is if a client has multiple advertisements assigned that are set to "Always Rerun", after a soft policy reset, will it only rerun ones that failed, as well as any that are set to always rerun with a recurring schedule but not ones that are set to always rerun and succeeded? (my steps through this are listed) * I had a test client for a test deployment I am doing and I validated the client as healthy for WMI, and it is able to do policy retrievals, and I see it keep coming back with 0 new assignments in policyagent.log. it just wouldn't seem to pick up this new advertisement. * I tried SCCM client center on it to do a simple client repair and that didn't fix things after another machine policy. So I tried a Reset Policy, the soft one, not the hard reset which states it keeps existing policies and downloads new ones. * The advertisement I have is set to always rerun program, also this client has other advertisements previously assigned to it that are also set to always rerun. * After doing that I saw the policyagent.log download policies, then in the execmgr.log I saw only the advertisement ID referenced in an offer received event so I knew it was working. I then confirmed in CAS.log it started a content download for only that package. Also, back in execmgr.log it said it was waiting on content so I knew that it was going to download content shortly after content has been downloaded. I also saw that in SCCM client center it only listed one running execution which was the one advertisement I just applied to that system and no previous advertisements were rerun. I saw this article from Jason (http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/archive/2011/04/05/configmgr-program-rerun-behavior.aspx) on rerun behavior and it states that always rerun will rerun if you remove and re-add the computer to a collection with that advertisement so I realize this but this client was not re-added to other collections with advertisements set to always rerun. I am just wondering if they all re-run after soft policy reset. I am still testing this more but wanted some input in case anyone has had experience. Thank you.
