I installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my Dell Studio XPS laptop. I did a "wipe and
load" to a newly created disk partition. It took about 15 for the basic
install. Once it finished I logged in with the same outlook.com account I had
been using on the laptop with Windows 8.1 Preview and it restored my settings
from the cloud. I then restored my document and photos from my USB attached
external hard drive. Tonight I will load Microsoft Office and other apps.

Mine took over an hour from a USB 2.0 thumb drive.

There were updates to download first, which it handled during setup. Then it
told me I had to remove some HP Protect Tools related bloatware. The rest was
automatic.

I had to re-connect my Microsoft account when it was done

I prefer the UI changes, since some are consistent with the Windows 8 Phone and
I am used to that. The Store is different, nicer. The Start button is on the
Desktop screen, but doesn't have any new functionality unless you right click.
Then my resistance to win8 melts away. Lots of useful choices there.
Scrolling up for All Apps is more intuitive and also similar to the Phone (just
a different direction.)

I've got an HP ElitePad 900 to test with. I'm going to try to upgrade over
Windows 8 Pro on it. I'll post my results.

I do not do OSD, this will be manual.

Just note that it's Windows 8.1 Pro at this point. Windows 8.1 Enterprise
isn't available yet.

And it's for evaluation, not production deployment - you have to wait until
October 18th for that :)

Thanks,
-Michael

Well that figures. I just rebuilt my lab servers with Preview over the weekend.

Oh well, I suppose I can start over again. :)
