It doesn't preserve everything. Some are reporting added features (like WMC)
are missing after the upgrade.

It's a simple upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, preserving apps,
settings, and data. But when going from Windows 7 to 8.1, only your user
data would be preserved; you would have to reinstall all your apps. You
could go from 7->8->8.1, not sure if it's worth the effort - depends on how
many apps you have :)

Thanks,

-Michael

Anyone know if 8.1 can upgrade Win7 directly? Yes, I'm too lazy to go
looking...

What's in Windows 8.1 Enterprise that isn't in Windows 8.1 Pro you ask? This
article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/jj721676.aspx#editions
says:

What are the differences between Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows
8.1 Enterprise?

Windows 8.1 is the basic edition for home users. It includes the core
feature set that home users require but does not include key business
features, such as support for the ability to join domains, process Group
Policy, and so on. Windows 8.1 Pro is for small- and medium-sized
businesses. It provides enhanced features that help to easily connect to
company networks, access files on the go, encrypt data, and more. Last,
Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition is available through Windows Software
Assurance. It includes all the capabilities of Windows 8.1 Pro, plus premium
features such as Windows To Go, DirectAccess, BranchCache, AppLocker,
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and Windows 8 app deployment.

Just note that it's Windows 8.1 Pro at this point. Windows 8.1 Enterprise
isn't available yet.

And it's for evaluation, not production deployment - you have to wait until
October 18th for that :)

Well that figures. I just rebuilt my lab servers with Preview over the
weekend.

Oh well, I suppose I can start over again. :)
