During a migration from CM 2007, a DP belonging installed upon a secondary site is allowed to be upgraded to CM 2012 as long as the DP role is the only other role installed. No MP, FSP or other site roles allowed. Not sure if this is the same as what you're doing.

Removing the DP and then installing the secondary, leaving the contentlib in tact will reuse the contentlib though to my knowledge. This isn't technically supported, but I've heard it works.
