I have a workflow where each month, after I create a SoftwareUpdateGroup for
the month I have to create 8 deployments for that group with various different
mandatory times and collections targeted.

I think I would like to use powershell to do that. This will be my first
powershell script - maybe I am biting off more than I should.

Anyway, the first problem I am running into is that I can't tell what the
difference is between start-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment and
set-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment. Which cmdlet would I use to create a new
deployment for an existing software update group?
