It's worthwhile mentioning that once you have upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2 you will no longer be able to upgrade Windows XP instances to Windows 7 or 8.1 due to an incompatibility in WinPE 5.0 staging a wim file under Windows XP.
So - Deploy XP in a bare metal scenario - yes - But refresh or upgrade - no Who knows if a hotfix will get released to address this issue - to my knowledge one hasn't been yet. I have had to stand up a new MDT 2012 Update 1 instance to upgrade my remaining few XP instances. Not that you should be doing any in 4 more months anyways ;) Christopher Catlett Consultant | Detroit [MCTS_2013_small] Sogeti USA Office 248-876-9738 |Fax 877.406.9647 26957 Northwestern Highway, Suite 130, Southfield, MI 48033-8456 www.us.sogeti.com<http://www.us.sogeti.com/> From: listsad...@lists.myitforum.com<mailto:listsad...@lists.myitforum.com> [mailto:listsad...@lists.myitforum.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Johnston Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2013 8:36 AM To: 'mssms@lists.myitforum.com' Subject: [mssms] Support for Windows 8.1 and beyond We are in the very early stages of thinking of Win 8.1, and I want my SCCM infrastructure to be ahead of the curve instead of waiting for the day they tell me "ok push Win 8.1" so I currently running SCCM 2012 SP1 (no CU's) on a Server 2012 with SQL 2012. I installed MDT 2012, but currently not using it yet (still have an old WDS server with MDT 2012). So my question ( which seems like a no-brainer) do I upgrade to Server 2012 R2 and SCCM 2012 R2/MDT 2013 to get me full leverage of the future? I have been holding off crating images in SCCM until I get a good understanding of our needs, and currently I only have a Primary site (no DP's or MP's) but that will change very soon. I understand that MDT 2013 does not support XP (which may be a small issue) but I am sure I can work around it. What if I already have an XP wim file and import it into MDT 2013? Will that work?
