Why integrate MDT into ConfigMgr?

· Dynamic deployment

· Database backend

· Development framework

· Real-time monitoring

· DaRT Remote Control

· 276 additional OSD features

You gain access to all the scripts that MDT has, so its less custom scripting
for you. (That’s the biggest thing.)

Here is a response Johan gave in a forum thread:

• The shorthand story is that the MDT Zero Touch components extends
ConfigMgr OSD with well over a hundred additional OSD features and functions.
Out of those features I have listed my favorites below:
1. Rules. A framework that enables dynamic deployments
2. The MDT database, a separate database to store OSD related settings
3. A development framework for OSD related customizations.
It's not that you cannot deploy OS with ConfigMgr if you don't add MDT. It's
just that sooner or later you want to do customizations, and you can either
develop those on your own, or download readymade, tested and supported
customizations.
To quote Michael Niehaus: The value that MDT is trying to add: doing things for
you that you didn't initially know you needed.
Here is a more extensive list of the features that MDT adds on top of the
ConfigMgr platform

Note: If you are a consultant and are billing by the hour, do not use MDT, it
may mean less billable hours. Integration SCCM with MDT will "unfortunately"
help you get the work done much quicker :)

Thanks for the response everyone. I'm actually looking for a total number count
of the additional features. 100, 200, etc.

It allows you to use the user driven installation wizards which was the reason
that we use it at our agency. It also adds this additional menu to the task
sequence steps you can choose from:

Exactly how many features does MDT 2013 add on top of CM12 R2 when integrated?

Thanks!
