Out of those features I have listed my favorites below: 1. Rules. A framework that enables dynamic deployments 2. The MDT database, a separate database to store OSD related settings 3. A development framework for OSD related customizations. It's not that you cannot deploy OS with ConfigMgr if you don't add MDT. It's just that sooner or later you want to do customizations, and you can either develop those on your own, or download readymade, tested and supported customizations. To quote Michael Niehaus: The value that MDT is trying to add: doing things for you that you didn't initially know you needed.
