Lol.

For a paid service I could use a local one then anyway.

As I have no clue about that subject: Besides reduced support and limited
space, what could I expect to be missing from e.g. free wordpress compared to a
hosted solution like 1and1?

I'm using 1 and 1 as well. It's direct cheap. No I just need to actually blog
something. LOL

Average blogs don't use much space at all as they're mostly text. For the vast
majority of folks wordpress.com is a great solution. I chose to host with a
provider so that I could micro-manage some things but not have to worry about
the actual hosting part (I use 1and1). Wordpress in generally is a super simple
platform that has endless customization and extensibility.

Thinking of having my own. What would you suggest as hoster?

I want to stay away using a facebook or google account if possible.

How about wordpress.com?

The free account offers 3GB. I think that should be sufficient, but I don’t
know how much space an average blog requires.

Anything else?
