You do not have to make it a package. The option he was referring to is 
replaced in Application deployment properties under the deployment settings 
tab. It is the "purpose" option.

Since this is an "Application" and not a package, I don't have that option.  I

Yes, just check the box that says "Allow users to run the program independently 
of assignments" on the User Experience dialog page in the Deploy Software 
Wizard or on the User Experience tab of the deployment properties.

If I did that, it would still allow the user to install before the required 
date correct?  Just want the make sure I am understanding this correctly.

New deployment. You cannot change an existing available to required.

You can deploy as required, with an available from time of now, and a deadline 
of two weeks from now.

We are getting ready to deploy IE 11 to our users.  If we put the application 
out as Available for a week or so to give users a chance to upgrade on their 
own, can you change the deployment to required later or do you have to create a 
new deployment?  Just trying to get some clarification on this as we are just 
getting into applications and such.
