I would not be in Houston without a car.
NOTHING is walking distance in Houston. we are a car society. if the
convenience store was a quarter mile from your house, a Houstonian
would drive. They would not even consider walking.
that being said, a 6 block walk downtown is no problem at all and to
be expected no matter what you do or where you stay.
A block in downtown is like 1 or 2 buildings. a block outside of
downtown could be a mile or more. There are a lot of people walking in
downtown. Once the sun sets, you will not see ANYONE downtown, cannot
find anything to eat, nothing except bars on main street where the
baby train stops.
