So just to round this out.
Compliance 5 - Specific computer I use the interactive sort feature to set all
the Require SU to the top. You can see that feature being used here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOzSH2AHZ6M
Compliance 2 - Specific software update : why don't you go directly to end
report, it called Compliance 8 - Computers in a specific compliance state for
an update (secondary)

I too write my own custom reports for SU.

Garth:
Compliance 5 - Specific computer shows both installed and required updates, not
just required updates.
Compliance 2 - Specific software update requires multiple steps. First, enter a
collection and a filter for the specific update (instead of selecting a
singular update from a list), run the report, select the update, select "update
is required", then it shows the list of devices. Not very quick.

I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm asking out of lack of experience. WSUS has
a much easier "at a glance" view for the updates a PC needs, or what PCs need
an update. Just seems convoluted in SCCM.

Daniel:
I may end up just using that, however we added a bunch of new devices to SCCM
and I was hoping to be a little more diplomatic in bringing these devices into
patch compliance. The point I was trying to convey is from that window is there
a way to select an update and just see a list of the PCs that do not have it
installed? If that's not available, I can go through the compliance reports
under the monitoring tab. I just was figuring there was a "fewer steps" process
to get the desired result. Otherwise it's going into the monitoring tab,
running report after report against every single update, and two steps later
finally getting a list of devices for that update.

Again, I wasn't trying to be smart or difficult, I *just* began patching via
SCCM this week and am still figuring my way around.

Thank you both for replying.

Personally for compliance for an update I just use the All Software Updates
node in the console (2012). One of the biggest things I see people overlook is
the columns you can add. See my view below.

For what version of CM are you using CM07 or CM12? What wrong with Compliance 5
- Specific computer for CM12 or Compliance 6 - Specific computer for CM07? Or
Compliance 2 - Specific software update; which should be the same for CM12 /
CM07

Subject: [mssms] SCCM / WSUS Reporting:

I'm curious how others handle figuring out what updates a PC requires, or what
PCs an update applies to. In WSUS it's fairly straightforward to just click on
an update or PC and get the resulting list. I'm not seeing anything similar in
the SCCM console. I ran the various Software Updates reports (Compliance,
Deployment Mgmt, Deployment States, etc.). None of them seem to allow the
simple selection of a single update, or a single computer and see the
compliance state. Do people still rely on the WSUS console for this? Or is
there a better place to look for this? We migrated a bunch of workstations to
this domain and so their compliance statuses are all over the place. I could
push out all updates at once, but I was hoping to determine which machines
require which updates. I did hijack a SQL query that gives a full list of every
update for every PC (but it's 1,500+ rows). I thought there might be a way from
within the SCCM console to get the same visual.

Thanks.
