That is a very specific case, ONLY if you wanted to use SQL 2014. You must first install SQL 2012, install ConfigMgr and then upgrade SQL to 2014. Upgrading Service Packs or CU's for SQL (when SQL 2014 is not part of the equation) is best done prior to installing ConfigMgr This could probably be considered a general best practice across almost anything that uses SQL.

Read somewhere on those interwebs that SCCM 2012 needed SQL2012sp1 for install and then I could update after.

Kind of. Yes, it must be 64-bit; however, each SQL Server 2012 SP level has a different CU minimum:

-          RTM is CU2

-          SP1 is no CU

-          SP2 is no CU

I always recommend (as do others much smarter on SQL Server than I am) to install the latest CU available for the SP that you are installing.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t use SP2 though?

Looks like SCCM 2012 just needs the SQL version to be 64 bit.

If I have SQL 2012 Sp1 CU13 installed should I be ok to install SCCM correct?
