Assuming the box is CHECKED

Yes, we agree that the computer will NOT install updates outside the
maintenance UNTIL the deadline has past.

Where I'm not sure we are in agreement is that the machine will NEVER
install updates outside a maintenance window UNLESS that box is checked.

I just wanted to be clear for the OP that Software Updates respect all
maintenance windows, regardless of the deadline, unless that box is checked.
