How would some delete a stale DP, where the site server refuses to do anything on that box because there isn’t anything on that box or that box is plain dead?
I need to delete the broken DP from CM12 (R2, cu4) My google magic didn’t show anything for CM12. Some delete statements for CM07, still good? -R From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Roland Janus Sent: Samstag, 14. Deleting from the DB is the only choice and the already available content is of no use. Full new install and prestage would be needed. It’s much easier to rebuild a failed primary then a DP :) Alright then Thanks, roland From: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of elsalvoz Sent: Samstag, 14. I know I did that once, removed the role and deleted the server without the removal finishing. Removing fails with an error, the site system stays, as long as that’s there it can’t be deleted. Only once the DP and in this case the statemigration point is removed, the site system is removed, then I can delete the server. Can’t go back and forth. Not a problem, I revert and start over, it’s just a lab. But I’m still wondering what the procedure for a failed OS on a DP is? I want to say that you can even delete the site system directly but not sure. It has been a while since I ran that exercise. Not really sufficient and even less on real remote connections. I really like to avoid that if it happens. I’ve reverted the vm of the DP to a OS only, installed roles and features etc. and added the DP again using PS. The site server doesn’t like that at all. I now have a DP I can’t remove or add anymore. No problem in the lab, I revert both and start over. But how to handle a remote DP when the OS fails and it has to be installed from scratch? Ignoring the content for now. What will the site server do if roles are tried to be removed from the DP which aren’t there? Have the content in the same structure and replicate the content (one package) and see if only verifies for bits. I'm assuming it will try to re copy the content due to WMI info of the content not found and/or library binary pointers to files. Maybe I will run this test in my lab and check transfer logs. Assuming the OS dies, the content (volume) is still available. What’s the procedure while avoiding sending everything again? it’s already there. Re-install the OS and then? The DP is still in CM, but not installed anymore. Remove and add? What about the content? With prestage content I would still need to get the content there. Contenttransferlibrary.exe? Roland
