By install data, he probably means reports like "Application deployments per asset". Which will list all the applications deployed to the asset and the status of it.
Note that if you want to see the same status for a Package, that is another report. I love Applications and can't remember the last time I had to create a package in SCCM 2012. They are waaaay more powerful and versatile. They just take getting used when coming from the SMS 2007 world. I also like the persistence. If a helpdesk member uninstalls an app during troubleshooting (an issue we used to have a big problem with), it will just get re-installed later.
