We've been approached by the-powers-that-be that daily isn't even
frequently enough.  We've had to push back that it is  frequently enough.
To address Jason's question; it's not that there are new updates released.
If we could use that as the only marker, then scanning for updates monthly
should be all that is required, right?  But as Todd mentioned, people
install software ALL the time.  and quite frequently it's not the latest
"patched" version of whatever it might be.  So SU fills the gap--and we
have to fill the gap in a relatively quick fashion--without breaking
everything by listening to the number crunchers about 'scan and deploy more
frequently to keep patches up to date so our reports look good'.

It's always a balancing game between the number crunchers and allowing
people to actually have their machines to get their job done instead of
constantly scanning "in case" they got something new.
