Yeah it's not supported to modify views.  that said... We have some custom
views, too.  Prior to any patch or upgrade we save the views (right-click,
script-view as, create to, editor window; save it); and then just re-create
the view once the upgrade is complete.

Not supported doesn't mean it "won't work".  Just that you accept the risk
of doing that; and know exactly what you are doing, why, and how to undo
your customizations if necessary.
