When we were briefly allowed into the Secret Mcafee message board, before our Grant number got bought up by the parent company and locked in a safe, we found many people who were not able to manage mcafee settings by regedit. It really really wants to be designed with their designer thing.
They keep finding ways to make my life miserable too. If you have a grant number you can download the designer. -----Original Message----- From: Masthanaiah Cheekavolu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2001 5:54 AM To: MSWinNT Discussions Subject: RE: Virus Scan settings are not getting stored What do you mean? Importing registry is a general task. After all I am trying to modify registry information from which Virus Scan would read virus scan task info. We do not have Installation designer. Is there one provided by NAI to customize Virus Scan installations? The problem started once we started using Management Edition. Earlier to this, the registry importing technique used to work fine. -Masthan. -----Original Message----- From: Hunter, Lori [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, October 22, 2001 11:23 PM To: MSWinNT Discussions Subject: RE: Virus Scan settings are not getting stored I don't think you can manage Mcafee this way. Do you have the installation designer thing? The problem is that the customized virus scanning tasks are not getting stored when we import them using regedit.exe tool. In our network, we had Virus Scan 4.5 SP1 configured with customized scanning tasks, which perform scanning of local and network drives once in every week. This we do to ensure a periodic check and cleanup of files of all the drives of a system so as to ensure a virus free network. Once we have upgraded the software to this latest version, we have configured the scanning tasks as desired on one system, exported the registry hive for this scanning task into a file. We then tried importing in user logon scripts (this is the technique what we have been following so far). Though the registry information is being applied successfully, the scanning tasks are not getting stored onto the Virus Scan software. Even if we manually double click this registry file, the scan tasks are not being reflected on the Virus Scan software. Please do let me know if anybody has faced this problem in the past and got a fix. I mailed NAI technical support three weeks back and awaiting for their reply. Lost hopes, hence, here I am..:-)) thanks, -Masthan. This message is confidential and may also be legally privileged. If you are not the intended recipient, please notify us immediately.
