when the faxmaker is running, does it mean I cannot use the phone dailer to
test the modem??

You need to find what program is running that would be accessing your modem,
it's probably some fax or answering machine software. Once you locate it,
have it stop accessing the modem, assuming it starts up with the system,
you'll need to kill it there. If you don't use it- uninstall it.

I try to use phone dailer to test my modem and I get an error like "Another
Program Is using the selected Telephony device." I found an article Q158370.
But did not help to solve my problem at all. Please let me know why?
