Thanks for all the feedback. I have given the guy all of the suggestions and they are all very appreciated.
Please find below details of all of the suggestions I have received. www.wonderdesk.com WonderDesk is a fully automated web based help desk. It's a Perl CGI-script that easily installs on your website. Replace your support email link with the WonderDesk, and say goodbye to that messy email inbox and support requests that fall through the cracks. http://www.inet-sciences.com A low cost or Free, web-based call tracking or Help Desk package. For support organizations with (3) tech staff members or less, the full complete version of the software is FREE. Thousands of users world wide now use the FREE version for their internal Help Desk or external customer support http://www.lbehelpdesk.com Their older v2 software is free. It's not the best in the world, but it does what I want. You might find it ok. The current version is reasonably priced too, but I haven't tried that. http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,74639,00.html "CYA Helpdesk is a simple Access 2000 database for logging technical support calls. It's simple, small, easy to use, and free. This isn't appropriate for an enterprise solution, but it's good for techs who need to log their work for CYA purposes." http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,34050,00.html The multi-user LBE Helpdesk system can track administrator jobs such as support requests, inquiry processing, clerical procedures, customer orders, and so on. It can integrate with MAPI-compliant email systems, and it features flexible reports and a full audit trail. The number of customers, categories, jobs, and databases it can track is limited only by your hard disk capacity. The number of users that can be registered with LBE Helpdesk depends on your license. This program is now offered for free. http://www.microsoft.com/mind/0697/messaging.htm With Microsoft Exchange Server, you can create workgroup-enabled applications that run across the Web-right in your Web browser. Access appears to be a good solution. Access 97 had a Service Call Management database wizard. Thanks Paul for offering your access database for use. for shareware - got to www.zdnet.com/downloads and search for 'helpdesk' Also two suggestions for Linux/BSD open source sites. In my case the guy working on this does not use the OS. Useful Reference though: The system I use is wreq which is also open source. We find it works very well and extremely easy to setup and maintain. http://www.math.duke.edu/~yu/wreq/ I hope you find these suggestions as useful as I have.
