If you attempt to map a network drive (after it radomly disappears) using
the original home directory drive letter, does it let you? Does a
logoff/logon bring it back? Could it be when the user is logging on they
are not being authenticated by a DC, but by local cache? If this is the
case home directories will not be remapped.

I thought about that but it does not loose any other network drive mappings.
It is only the drive mapping that is mapped in user manager for the home
directory.

Sounds like it's losing network connection.

Subject: Random disconnects with home directory drive mapping

Has anyone ever run into problems with Windows NT 4 Workstation randomly
dropping the home directory mapping. When I reboot it seems to pick it back
up but it will randomly drop the mapping again. If anyone could shed some
light on a resolution for this I sure would appreciate it.
