This EM was originally three independent letters, two of them
I was going to be private, but, ah, I've read nonsenses about
someone else's hair, flames and even PC related stuff, so why
shouldn't I...? Okay, I'll cut short.

    First: music. ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote:

This is all academic. One may define "music" as it wills. RAP
and chant are not music for me and most musicians and teachers I
know. That doesn't mean they are not good listening (in my personal
opinion, most are not, but then, but my taste for music is very
"excentric", though ecletic).

No, the words of RAP (rhythm and poetry) are not the melody.
They form a repetitious monotonal cadence, that is, the same tone
repeated over and over. That's one of the principles of "how
to create RAP", you chant the poetry following the rhythm, 'cause
it dictates the shape the thing will take.

And the chant, without rhythm... Try "happy birthday to you"
without the rhythm. As I have heard stated around in many different
ways and examples, if the important is to communicate, not to
elaborate it, then, why not going to the surgery without pain killer,
if the important is to cure, why not having the meals without spices,
if the important is to get the body fed, and why not having an MSX
game without sound, if the important is the playing? Or do you want
to feel good while the knife cuts through the flesh, to enjoy the
tastes of a dinner (the Japaneses say, "feed the spirit as the body"),
to listen to a good music, see good graphics, appreciate a good story
while playing? Music is more than unpondered frequencies in time, it
requires a melody to show the colours, a rhythm to shape them in time
and the emotion to play it. A good idea cannot survive without a good
presentation. For example, I have played "Parodius" in many systems
and despite MSX version being my favourite for sentimental reasons (no
reason at all!), its not the one I like most playing (the Super Famicom
is wonderful, the PC-Engine has a very funny presentation and so on...)
Okay, okay, MSX version has be best musics, but then, that's not a fair
comparision (the best of Konami ever vs. the commercial Konami...)

Second: Alwin Henseler ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote a lot about
the ZIP license... Hum, sounded like a lawyer speaking... Hope
you are not going to the "dark side of the force"... No...
Nothing that I would really want to comment, except what I have
already said, Info-ZIP (and consequently, everyone else that
uses its softs) are having problems with the copyright of
"shrink" and "unshrink", so they don't come with those algorithms
active (one must make custom versions if it wants to use them).
The sources still come within their packages, but they cannot
make any warranties of how long. Enough...

Third (the first really MSX related topic): does anybody know
how the Z80's "R" register works? It controls the "REFRESH" sign
of the CPU, but when is it generated? When it counts "zero"? It
wouldn't be very smart, 'cause the register can be set by soft...
So...?

Fourth: can SCC memory (or registers, whatever you call them)
be read? Or are they read only like MSX-Music?

Fifth and last: TFH ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) said:

Yes, that's what I have been saying! Congratulations for you,
you saw (or heard) farrer than those PC users! Hm, let them enjoy
those "flat" musics, if it keeps them happy...

                                                 ... Cyberknight...
