The R800 speed is quite usefull. The other extras are less necessary in my
opinion.
The main advantage of a turbo R is that you have a LOT of extras already in
the machine. Before I bought a GT, I had a 8250 (MSX2, 128K RAM). So with
GT I got:
- more speed (no need for 7MHz upgrade for my 8250)
- MSX2+ VDP
- MSX-MUSIC internally
- DOS2 internally
- 512K RAM internally
- PCM sampling, kanji ROM, MIDI interface etc (all less important to me)
So I saved a lot of upgrades and also a slot expander (that's why I
mentioned "internally" several times).
I guess it depends most on what upgrades are already in your MSX2+. If you
do it just for the turbo-R only software, I think it's not really worth it.
But you can also see a turbo R as "a very complete MSX machine".
About the HD interface:
DOS2 in the interface can be a serious problem. However, there are other
interfaces (like Mega-SCSI) that work very well on turbo R.
I think the worst problem about turbo R is the disk drive: it breaks down
too soon and is very diffucult to replace.
