Hello Willem van de Werf...

About hardware dependency.
A group in Spain is also busy writing a terminal program for the 16550 that
works with the ACCNET interface. This program should work with my interface
as well because they are compatible with each other!!!

But at least there IS software for it.
And it is delivered WITH the interface.

>De kosten zijn tamelijk duur als ik nu met jou rs232c een bbs wil bellen

(Translation: It is rather expensive with your interface if I want to call
a BBS with full ANSI)

What exactly do you mean by 'expensive' ????

This is what you will get :

A proffesional double sided PCB, with gold plated contacts. With solder mask
and components print-on. It comes in a konami size box with a DB-9 connector
coming out of it. Supplied with the interface comes a cable.
(DB-9 female -> DB-25 male)
The interface comes with Erix on a disk.
The interface and Erix will be put in a bigger box.
Disk, Cartridge and Box will be labeled.

And if you think it is expensive, just take your calculator search for
the cheapest prices...

Here are the parts :

16550 PLCC44
75188 SO14
75189 SO14
5x100nf 1206
1x68pF 1206
1x33pF 0805
1x1k5 1206
1x1M 1206
1xBS170 TO92
1x10uF/63V Pol.Cap
1x1.8432Mhz Xtal
1xDB9 hook, male
1xGAL16V8 DIL20
1xPCB Konami size
1x Konami size box
1x              RS232C cable DB-9 female -> DB-25 male
1x Disk
1x VHS size box
1x Dutch/English Erix manual
1x Product specification
3x Label (1xErix, 1xCartridge, 1xBox)

That doesn't include much of my time and effort. And I am not the only one
that spend some time for it.
I have made testsoftware that test the whole RS232C interface completely.
(For solder errors, baud rate generater, drivers, receivers, GAL
functionality)
And I really don't make profit on this interface.
Besides that, Sunrise doesn't really make that much money out of it.

If all the money that comes out of it went to me, I wouldn't get $0.10 /hour.

If you think it is too expensive, please don't buy it!!!
I don't really care when you use a SONY RS232C, or a Philips RS232C...
Or whether or not you like Term above Erix.

Besided that, I don't know what the ANSI part has to do with it.

>Doe mij dan maar gewoon term deze werkt teminste met een gewone philips
>rs232c.

(Translation : Term will do for me, this one at least works with a normal
Philips RS232c) (something like that)

Yes, that's right. I really have no problem with that.
But Erix does also work with a Philips RS232c.
You can buy it seperate...

Do you know an interface that Erix DOESN'T support???
As far as I know only the add-on boxes for the MT-Telcom aren't supported
yet and won't be because they really suck.
Do you know any other interface???
Probably not.
(I have to confess it uses only channel 0, when you are using an ASCII
multichannel MSX-RS232C interface. But it should work!!!)

>die ook nog eens volledig ansie ondersteund. Een modem van 33K6 is geen
>probleem met 7 Mhz.

(Translation : ...that supports full ANSI. A modem of 33k6 is no problem
with 7 Mhz.)

Erix can work with speeds up to 115200 baud. With the 16550 driver this is
guaranteed.
The philips RS232c are specified upto 38400 baud.

The 7 Mhz problem you are talking about does exist (only with Philips
NMS1250), I know.
I still don't know the exact sollution, if you have it, please let me know.

And about the ANSI thing... Doesn't Erix support this, if so, tell me...
Colour ANSI is in Erix only available with the Gfx9000. For the V9938
this still isn't finished, but still in development.
(I haven't worked on this version for more than a year)

>Kwa snelheid zal je tegenwordig toch afhankelijk worden van de type
>scsii interfae.

(Translation : On the point of speed a this time, you are dependent of the
type of SCSI interface)

That is not true, I really don't know how you have made this up.

The slowest SCSI interface I know it the old MK interface. This transfers
about 20 kbyte/second on a standard MSX.
That is still more than 11 kbyte/second.
The slowdown in this problem is still the RS232C interface.
But when you have a fast SCSI interface and a slow RS232C interface, the
RS232C interface will really be a pain in the ass...

So, a faster RS232C interface will help in any way.

>Sorry erik. Zal best wel een leuk product zijn. Maar jammer genoeg

(Translation : Sorry Erik. I suppose it is a nice product. But unfortunatly
this doesn't met with the standard MSX guidelines)

Does the Philips RS232C interface comply with these guidelines???? (NO!!!)

The only REAL standard MSX RS232C interfaces are the ones that comply with
the standard defined by Microsoft/ASCII for MSX.

The only interfaces I know that comply are from the following manufacturers:

- Sony
- Ascii
- Spectravideo

And probably some more.

Philips uses a Z8530 while the MSX RS232C interface uses the old 8251 UART and
the 8253 timer.
That last ones are really old fashioned!

>Je had veel meer mensen blij kunnen maken als jullie een standaard
>rs232c hadden ontwikkeld.

(Translation: You could have made more people hapy when you have had developed
a standard RS232C)

No, I really do not agree.

You mean I should have made an interface that complies with the standard and
boosts up the speed???
What price do you want to pay???

                16550 Z8530 8251/8253
Speed good medium slow
Price good bad medium
FIFO 16 bytes 3/5 bytes 1 byte

>/\/\ Willem /\/\ P.S sorry dat ik zo negatief ben /\/\

(Translation: P.s. sorry I am so negative)

Are you?

I thought we all were friendly. Guess not...
It could be you want to fight someone else I know in this way,
but please don't do it like this.
