Before you start reading: just before I hit the "send" button I discoverd
that I totally forgot about MSX 1 :-) Woops.. Should we add a special
section for MSX1 to? (hint for requirements: standard MSX1 with 32kB RAM.
Program should run from BOTH cassette and disk (with CTRL pushed during
boot), XBASIC NOT allowed!!!)

Ok, now for the rest:

And poking things into the keyboardbuffer should be illegal too.

>2) Xbasic (or similar like NestorBasic) allowed:
> - Bload "Xbasic.bin",r
> - Only _TurboOn and _TurboOff allowed

Please note: there are several XBASIC versions. I've a MSX-2+ version build
in, which can do 2+ statements. Most xbasic.bin version can't do this...

>3) All MSX Systems.

tR is still not very common (and never will be). I suggest we stick to
standard MSX2, thus 64kB RAM, 128kBVRAM, 3.57MHZ Z80A processor, BASIC ROM
v2.0 or v2.1, DISK ROM v1.0 with ONE double side diskdrive attached.

>4) Memory: CTRL pressed.

That's in the MSX standard :-) See also my opinion on rule #5.

My suggestions for the sections (since MSX !=PC)

-----------------ONE FILE-----------------
-ONE-LINER: exactly ONE line of BASIC, no other files allowed. (don't copy
that mandelbrot fractalgenerator from the MCCM 69, coz that's my one-liner
already :-)
-1K : ONE basic executable (saved with SAVE"file") file Up to 1KB, no other
files allowed.
-CTRL : As long as it fits in 24990 bytes free on a standard MSX2 with
DiskROM v1 booted with CTRL pressed, no other files allowed.

-----------------MULTIPLE FILES-----------------
64K : COMPRESSED archive is equal or less than 65536 bytes, use of multiple
files allowed. (basic executable or data-files)
DISK : entire 720K DISK, UNCOMPRESSED. Use of multiple files allowed. (basic
executable or data-files). Disk should be formatted with the DOS1 format
command, other (special) formats not allowed.

>6) Music:
> - Play and Sound allowed.
> - fmpac, music module, scc, moonsound ? I think it's better to use just
>the play and sound...Please say wath do you think about this

Again, it should work on a standard MSX2.

>7) Ftp & Web (i must ask to Tristan and NYYRIKKI):
> - Ftp site: ftp.funet.fi /pub/msx/demo/basic/compo/msx1 -
>/pub/msx/demo/basic/compo/msx2 - /pub/msx/demo/basic/compo/msx2p -
>/pub/msx/demo/basic/compo/tr
> - all the demos must be uploaded in one file. If a demo is more than one

> - you can vote from 1st 0:00 to 25th 24:00 of February
> - results on the web page at least on 28th nigth

>9) ...

Use of other hardware, such as music cardridges, MSX-2+, turboR, mice is
allowed, but the demo should be juged on a standard MSX-2 with ONE
double-sided floppy-drive running on DiskROM v1.0, without any other
hardware. If you've made beautiful OPL4 songs and you can play them in BASIC
but the rest of you program stinks, bad luck. Try to arrange it for the PSG
:-)

If your program can use extra hardware, you should auto-detect its precence
AND ask the users if the program may use it. This last requirement is for
people who have their extra hardware build in and can't disable it, like a
FM-PAC and MSX-2+ screens on the turboR.

10) You demo may not write to a physical DISK. So, it's not allowed to write
generated datafiles to a disk.

>What do you think ??

It's getting better and better :-)

Some less-obvious things:
If you use the RAMdisk (call memini) make sure you don't exceed the 32000
bytes. BASIC ROM v2.0 only allocates 32000 bytes for the ramdisk...

Use of memory mapper is allowed, since it a part of the MSX-standard. I've
mentioned a maximum of 64kB, several non-european machines don't have
more...

I suggest you always set the VDP-interrupt to the value you want (50 or
60Hz). (Japanese computers always boot in 60Hz mode, if I'm right)
