Hmm, quite difficult for me. First, I'm atheist, so I cannot
go to hell. Second, Bill Gates cannot burn in hell because he
made it, I cannot believe he hasn't made some windowsless security
system against selfburning.
Okay, okay, talking (a little more) seriously, my favourite
plataform game for MSX is "Thexder". Thinking about it, MSX is
"weak" in plataform games. I tried to remember how many there
were, and could only count a few ("Choro-Q", "Crusader",
"Gojira Kun" [Godzilla], "Mr. Gordon Goody", "Majou Densetsu II
- The Maze of Galious" and so on). There are also some very
playable in the Disc Stations. Except for a few, like "MD2",
"Hundra" and those of Disc Stations, most have a terrible
playability, including the "Jet Set Willy" series (sorry, but
it is the truth). A plataform game don't have to perfectly
simulate inertia, wind speed and so on, but must give options
to the player to actually _play_ the game. For example, "Akumajou
Dracula" of the Super Famicom don't allow jump control while the
character is in mid-air (like "MD2" does), but you can still
control other "variables", like the whip, making the game very
playable and enjoyable. On the other hand, "Actraiser", also
for SFC, is simply annoying: like "Akumajou Dracula" it doesn't
allow mid-air jump control, but also doesn't give the player
any alternative (there are only one possible movement for the
sword in mid-air, and it is too slow). The only thing that
could make it just a bit more annoying is inertia simulation,
exactly the factor present in "Jet Set Willy" that makes me reach
the conclusion that it is "boring". Well, as you see, I never
criticize without a solid argumentation basis, what in no way
should stop people of trying those games I don't like (everyone
must breed its own opinion). Mostly because the games I like form
a very short list...
As ever, that was the "side board" of this letter. The main
reason of this is to inform that Yawara has struck, again. As
I announced, I was working on "Outrun" module, and it is finished.
I had a brainstorm today ("cookies and milk kept me awake") and
made 7 (seven!) modules, which are: "The Flintstones", "Mutant
Zone 1", "Mutant Zone 2" (different of most Spectrum convertions,
this one has a different music of its previous part), "Outrun"
(MSX version), "Power", "Rock'N Roller" and "Titanic". "Titanic"
almost "went to the bottom of the sea": the game overwrites the
work area. Its module relocates all routines and data banks to
another area and then accesses it. And there are more to come...
another day, 'cause I'm tired (there are not enough cookies in
the world to keep me awake...)
... Cyberknight...
