Hi,
If we all had RS-232, Music Module or Acrobat, a
network using these things would be nice...
In my humble opinion :
If you need speed for an application, try to use
the RS-232 because you can link MSX with another MSX, a PC,
a HP48, a modem, etc.
If you want to make multi-player games, the best way
is to use the joystick port. You can easily connect two MSXs
without any additional hardware, or make a ring connecting
several MSXs.
In the last MSX meeting in Brasil (Jau'98) we
presented a game for up to 14 players (each one in one MSX),
to be played in a MSX-ring connected by the joystick port.
You just need two female DB-9 connectors and wire to make
the cable. Cheap ! It really works ! Lots of people saw it!
The cable used was the F1-Spirit 3D cable, that is
the same as the used to play F-16 in combat mode.
I think that we must accept that cable as a
standard in joystick port communication. The software can
be made according the needings of each case.
Soon we will present our game (in BASIC) with all
the source code of the communication routine (in Assembly).
Developing multi-player games surely will make the
MSX meetings more funny and will help the MSX to continue
strongly alive.
