Correct, the PC joystick ports are analog, the joysticks of a pc merely consist of
two variable resistors and four digital inputs for buttons (for two joysticks,
they go on the same port, or for one joystick, like the famous pad). The digital
pc-joysticks all have some circuitry to transform digital inputs into resistance.
The circuitry for this is simple however and can be an option to implement a
digital input.
