Hi All,
High costs? Complex HW?
Hmmm, think of this, there are sony digital camera's that store your
pictures directly to floppy disk, compressed in JPEG.
Those camera's use a chip, capable of realtime JPEG compression. I don't
know about decompression, I haven't had the opportunity to examine the
camera up close, but I can imagine that it exists.
Don't invent the wheel twice, look around...
