From the Great Book of Non-Fudeba Programmer, 66-80:
"You will never read the mapper ports".
What this means?
Simple!
NEVER READ THE MAPPER PORTS!
Wanna know the size of the mapper?
Count how many RAM pages it has.
Fudeba? Yeah, maybe. But it works and it's full compatible and
doesn't crash or short-circuit any MSX.
Almost all MSX programmers know the trick of reading a mapper port
and calculate mapper size from this value, but THIS IS WRONG. I'll not
discuss the technical details of why it's not recommended reading mapper
ports cause it was discussed to exhaustion in this mailing list.
Again:
NEVER READ THE MAPPER PORTS.
