I was thinking about connecting an external keyboard, although I'm not sure
yet about how that could be done (use Padials interface? but that uses up a
cartridge slot; maybe design my own interface? that would be good for an MSX
with a connecter for an external keyboard, like the Philips NMS machines,
but the Turbo R would have to be dismantled).

BTW does anybody know a solution for the problem that the 11*8 switches of
the keyboard matrix would have to be emulated in a PC keyboard interface for
MSX? It would take 22 IC's of the type CD4016 or CD4066 (they take up too
much space and too much power). Maybe a MT8812 array will work. I don't know
yet.
