Well, since this smells like that Marthos' crack is reading the mapper
registers
I decided to download the crack and try it out on my Turbo-R computer.
For those who
don't know my computer is a FSA1-ST with 1024kb memory installed
internally by myself.
It has a switch that cuts the MA19 address path between R800 and S1990.
This ensures that
there's a way to disable the upper 512kb half of the memory bank.
I tried A1F crack in 512kb mode and it ran flawlessly.
I tried A1F crack in 1024kb mode and it crashed miserably.
Conclusion : It DOES reads the mapper ports. And I didn't ever had to
reverse engineer it
to figure that out. I think that someone should fix it out. It will
waste only 2 bytes of the
system rom to make some sort of cache to the mapper registers and modify
the crack for reading
that cache instead of directly the read-back input of the mapper
registers. This will make the
crack fully compatible with the MSX standard ...

P.S.: I tried it under DOS1.x I dunno if it uses DOS2 mapper control
routines if DOS2 is installed
