Hope this wasn't mentioned on the list before: You're entering a password that 
doesn't look like an email address. If you're using a crappy browser which
doesn't understand how anonymous ftp works (wouldn't be surprised if it's
IE) try one of the following:

 o Use http. IE is well-known for crappy ftp implementations.

   http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/msx/

 o Tell IE to use a proxy. Let a proxy do ftp since ftp is apparently too
   much for it.

 o Use a proper ftp client and enter your email address as the password
   (or something that looks like a password).

 o If memory serves me correctly, there is an option in IE which you 
   should check: "Send email address as anonymous ftp password". 

IE is very good at rendering html, but there's loads of stuff it doesn't
do very well.
