You sure about that last thing? Meaning, you tried? Because afaik it should
just work. Well, anyways, PC cardreaders are very cheap nowadays and using
Sunrise's adapter is probably too much trouble, as the IDE connectors are
inside the PC case.

About the performance, on my 7MHz MSX2 it is slightly better than a regular
harddisk, the harddisk reached 230kb/s and from CompactFlash it read at a
nice rate of 260kb/s. And I would recommend buying the CF-IDE interface,
with that you don't need an external power supply and no cables, and it's
more compact.

Oh, and two important questions you forgot:
A: Is it silent? Q: Yes!
A: Is the data still on it if I drop it? Q: Yes!
