Hi,

I am a complete Linux console geek, nad would like my windows system to work as
closely to Linux as possible so in the past, I installed cygwin and added it to
my windows path.

Then I could simly run:

C:\ls

And get a directory listing.

If I install msys2 and the mingw64 toolchain, I have discovered if I include
the q:\msys2\bin and q:\msys2\mingw64\bin directories in my path, if I try to
run:

C:\ls

While it works it takes 30+ seconds to run whereas the cygwin equivalent is
virtually instaneous. Running gdb also takes a significantly longer time to
startup.

I know that ls is part of the msys2 packages so it has to load the msys2.dll
file, but according to what I read gdb is part of the mingw64 tools so
shouldn't require the msys2.dll.

Why do these programs take soooo long to load?

I know the obvious question is why don't I simply run a msys2 or mingw64 shell
which I could do, but those take over a minute to launch on my laptop, and
sometimes I just need to get something done quickly on the command-line.

Thanks,

Don
