Regarding Peter's suggestion (I did not get his mail, only your reply to it): I think it would be a matter of changing the Makefile to generate msys-git-1.0.dll. The problem is that we'd have to recompile _everything_, i.e. bash and the helpers such as sed, tr, etc. It would be a lot of work, and I simply do not have the time/inclination to do it.
