Dear MT-List members,
We are potential users of MT applications and
would like to know about the technical requirements to run these applications,
most importantly:
1. Which OS platforms (Win NT, UNIX, Linux, or
all three) make the most sense -- in terms of access to the more powerful
applications, interoperability between applications, and flexibility with regard
to new developments.
2. Minimum processor requirments to run these
more powerful applications.
By applications, we mean both "full-blown" MT NLP as
well as translation memory and database intensive aids.
We are curious to any recommendations from the
list community, as we intend to use the latest technologies, including those
that are still in development and not yet market-ready (and are prepared to
assist testing efforts, as well). We have reviewed the latest edition of
John Hutchins' Compendium, and are looking for further input and are ready to
entertain any questions from list members to us, too.
